Cachopou.

A random misuse of electronica, noise, off-key post-jazz and sound art, all recorded during live studio improvisations with guests.

"The idea of expressing emotion using synthetic music is such a basic one but still so few bands do it as well as Cachopou. It is just the right balance of chaos and order. lovely.” - Isan.

"An unnerving deconstruction of punk-jazz-minimal-glitch music that seems to be infinitely played by a musical AI set free to explore the realm and boundaries of music: rhythms, melodies, sounds." - Antoine Schmitt.

Tropicalismo neo surfs the unconscious subtropical universe, recreating the naive sound and feel of early improvised rehearsal moments, rejoicing in the involuntary post-adolescent bursts and voluntary asynchronicity. Imperfect songs that randomly unravel into raw slices of chaotic beauty and magic.

Tropicalismo neo was recorded in Maitino, Vigo, Madrid & Paris between 2o16 and 2o2o. Additional sounds by Macarena, Greg Corsaro, Carlos, Andreu & L.A.R. Mastered by J.M.Rosillo. Cover artwork by Jon Vaughn. Videos by Sam Machell, Juanma Lodo, Boris Hoppek, Piero Chiariello, Systaime.

"Wild digi jazz. keeps squirming away from comfort and expectation. humorous too! how often does music make u laugh out loud? some hilarious little bleeps and chimes. energetic and invigorating like only the best records are" - Sam Machell.

Creating standards was recorded and mastered at DRAX studios by J.M.Rosillo. Additional sounds by Cristian, Nacho, Daniel & Ximena. Cover artwork by David Quiles Guilló. Videos by Yoshi Sodeoka, Frère Reinert, Boris Hoppek and David Quiles Guilló. Published by Nosordo.

Juanma Lodo and David Quiles Guilló met briefly in September 2o14 in Asturias, and while sharing a wonderful local dish, they decided to get together as Cachopou.

Only took one lap around the sun to reunite and be joined by talented guests Bosques de mi mente, Cristian and Meterla. Cachopou entered drax studios in a hot summer in Madrid, with J.M.Rosillo as lead sound engineer, to record the first music album entitled Creating standards, launched in October 2o15.

Free short unbounded improvisations were recorded separately, to later be randomly used as tracks to compose the songs, trusting unskilled chance, proposital destempo and happy chaos, underlining the small glimpses of beauty. This process was then adopted as Cachopou’s recording and composing ethos for all the following recordings and albums.

2o16. The Weird World Tour, Cachopou’s first stage experiment to present creating standards album, visited Barcelona, São Paulo, San Francisco & Hasselt.

In each city a different local band was assembled to impersonate Cachopou, and was given total freedom to reinterpret Cachopou’s works, making each show unique, local scene supportive and carbon neutral.

Few months later, in June 2o16 we released Creating remixes, a limited edition ep cassette featuring versions of Creating standards songs recomposed by musicians, artists and friends.

May 2o2o, after 4 long years of improvisation recordings, 3 different studios, lots of talented guests, and many semesters of composting, we deliver Cachopou’s second studio album Tropicalismo neo as a collection of imperfect songs made of chaotic beauty and magic, to celebrate life in the midst of a global pandemy.

August 2o21, Cachopou’s third and definitive studio album Stakes are high delivers an inflexion in the band’s sound, thrusting a powerful new mix of fresh organic electronics and post-everything routines featuring lots of randomness, freedom and a bit of jazz.

April 2o22, Cachopou achieves an arty milestone, showcasing stakes are high’s videos at Centre Pompidou Paris, as part of Réseaux Mondes exhibition.

December 2o22, Réseaux Mondes is elected top ten art exhibition of the year by Artforum.

In October 2o23, the band gets together for a last series of recording sessions to summon our final album, Encore, featuring a collection of new tracks, to be released in April 2o24.

After 10 years of experimenting, recording, composing and having fun, September 2o24 will see the dawn of Cachopou, and the birth of the legend.

It’s been a blast!
Bye bye!
